South Yorkshire Cup Semi-Final Success.
On Tuesday 16th February 2016 our Sheffield FC Scholarship team faced Thomas Rotherham College (TRC) Football Academy in the semi-final of the South Yorkshire Cup in an evening kick off at Maltby Academy.
It was a well fought game played in an excellent spirit with both teams hoping to reach the final. TRC Academy took the lead in the first half but we hit back immediately and equalised before half time so it was all square at half time and nicely poised at 1-1. It was all to play for in the second half.
Sheffield FC started the second half much better and maintained the momentum they had gained after the first goal, this pressure continued and we took the lead 15 minutes after half time. However, in this end to end game, twenty minutes before the end of the game TRC equalised taking the game to a penalty shootout.
In a nervy penalty shootout our scholarship team remained calm and composed from 12 yards and scored 4 out of 5 penalties and Thomas Rotherham College only managed to convert 2 penalties meaning Sheffield FC won the penalty shootout 4 – 2!!
A fantastic achievement for everyone involved with the squad and we are now confident the team can go one step further and win the South Yorkshire Cup Final in March.
