Maltby Academy's outstanding maths department selected for an international exchange to China as part of leading curriculum reform.
In 2014 the maths department at MA were judged to be outstanding across all areas. Following this success and in partnership with the South Yorkshire Maths Hub, two experienced teachers will now be visiting Shanghai to work with their teachers and see how maths is taught at key stage 3.
This exchange visit has been arranged by the Department for Education and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission - the highest performing jurisdiction in the world for maths. During the ten day visit, there will be an opportunity to research and develop ways in which similar teaching approaches can be used in our own classrooms.
The Shanghai method is based on establishing core skills at a young age to give pupils a sound basis for moving on to more advanced concepts. Following the visit, representatives from China will be returning to England to work with the students and teachers at Maltby Academy.
Strategic Leader Miss Keating states "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our department to work with schools topping the international performance tables. We are excited to work with colleagues from across the globe to learn from and share outstanding approaches to teaching and learning".
