Primary Academies Prepare for Annual Literary Festival

From 6th October, our Primary Academies will be coming together for our annual Literary Festival,  a week-long celebration of reading, storytelling, and imagination.

This special event gives pupils the chance to experience the joy of books in exciting and creative ways. Across our primaries, children will:

  • Meet the Authors – Published writers Ray Douglas and Elizabeth Green will lead inspiring assemblies and workshops, helping pupils discover where stories come from and how reading can spark the imagination.

  • Take Part in Reading Workshops – Year 5 pupils will join the Maltby Academy English team to explore literature in greater depth, building confidence and inspiring a love of reading that lasts a lifetime.

  • Step Into Story Worlds – With the help of Rotherham-based charity Grimm & Co, classrooms will be transformed into magical spaces inspired by It’s Grimm Up North, showing pupils that they are part of the story too.

  • Showcase Talent in the Choral Speaking Competition – Pupils will demonstrate their expression, teamwork, and confidence in this vibrant celebration of spoken word.

The Literary Festival is an important part of how we celebrate and nurture literacy across our Trust. It’s about opening doors, encouraging curiosity, and highlighting the magic that stories bring into all of our lives.
