Mr Binks

Mr Binks is the Principal of Sir Thomas Wharton Academy and has responsibility for the day to day leadership and management of the Academy. Prior to joining the Maltby Learning Trust Mr Binks has been the Headteacher at Sir Thomas Wharton since September 2014.

Before becoming Headteacher Mr Binks had served the Sir Thomas Wharton and Edlington School community as Deputy Headteacher. During that time he was instrumental in the design of the new build and establishing the name and vision for the new school. On appointment as Headteacher and following academisation in February 2013, Mr Binks recognised the need for the Academy to work in partnership with other successful organisations to accelerate the school to the next level of performance. Recognising the shared values and successes of Maltby Academy in a similar context, he guided the governors towards a partnership with the Maltby Learning Trust.

Mr Binks is committed to the local community and is determined to help transform outcomes for Sir Thomas Wharton students, the community it serves and the partners in our Trust.

Mr Binks believes in developing teachers and support staff to be outstanding professionals. He has previously been seconded to develop leadership across Doncaster schools as a ‘succession planning consultant’. As part of this role he became qualified as a facilitator for leadership programmes with the National College for Teaching and Learning, developing leaders at all levels across the different phases of education within Doncaster and across South Yorkshire.

Mr Binks’ background is in Physical Education, having graduated with a BSc Hons from Loughborough University. He is a keen sportsman and retains a competitive mentality.
